Virtual cards

How to create and use Fundly virtual cards, how many you get per plan, and how the Instant card works.

What a virtual card is

A virtual card is a full card number, expiry date and CVV that lives in the Fundly web app at app.fundly.xyz instead of on plastic. It works anywhere online that accepts Visa or Mastercard-network cards, and in shops through a mobile wallet once that is supported. Cards are issued by [PARTNER].

Every Fundly account gets a virtual card, including Instant accounts. Instant cards have monthly limits set by our partner and regulators. At launch that is roughly 1,000 to 2,500 EUR equivalent per month and about 500 EUR per transaction. See Instant vs Verified.

Create a virtual card

  1. Sign in to the Fundly web app and open Cards.
  2. Select Create virtual card.
  3. Give it a name, for example "Subscriptions" or "Travel".
  4. Confirm with your passcode or biometrics.
  5. Select the card to reveal the number, expiry and CVV. Use Copy to paste them into a checkout.

The card is active as soon as it appears. It spends from your main balance in your account currency.

Cards per plan

Extra cards are useful for keeping subscriptions separate, giving one card to a specific merchant, or creating a card you plan to delete after a single purchase. Plans are described in Plans: Free, Plus and Premium.

Disposable cards

On Plus and Premium you can mark a card as disposable. A disposable card is closed automatically after its first successful payment. Use it for a merchant you do not fully trust or for a free trial you do not want to renew.

Tip
For a subscription you want to cancel later, give it its own card. Freezing or deleting that card stops the charges without touching your other cards.

Using a virtual card in shops

Apple Pay and Google Pay support is planned, subject to partner support. Until it is confirmed, virtual cards are for online and in-app payments only. Do not rely on a virtual card for in-person payments while travelling. Order a physical card instead.

Fees on virtual cards

  • Creating a virtual card is free on every plan, up to the plan limit.
  • Card spend in your account currency costs 0%.
  • Payments in another currency carry an FX fee at launch of 1.5% on Free, 0.5% on Plus and 0% on Premium. See Fee schedule.

Managing your cards

From the card screen you can freeze, rename, set a spending limit, block merchant categories or delete a card. Deleting a card is permanent, and any pending refunds to that card are still credited to your balance. See Card controls and freezing.

Warning
Never share a screenshot of your card details. Anyone with the number, expiry and CVV can spend from your balance until you freeze the card.

If a payment fails

Most failures on virtual cards are an insufficient balance, a card limit or a merchant that does not accept prepaid-type cards. See Declined transactions.
